Columbus McKinnon Introduces Magnetek® ZLTX Radio Remote Controls for Crane and Hoist Applications

New ZLTX Transmitters Combine the Ergonomics of a Handheld with the Durability of a Bellybox

By Columbus McKinnon | Jul 15, 2025

Columbus McKinnon is proud to introduce the latest addition to its Magnetek® brand of radio remote control solutions: the ZLTX Radio Remote Controls. Now available for pre-order, ZLTX transmitters are designed to deliver the comfort of a handheld transmitter with the ruggedness of a bellybox. ZLTX is ideal for crane and hoist applications in metals production, aerospace, general manufacturing environments, and more.

Ergonomic Design for Operator Comfort

Their ergonomic, contoured housing and lightweight construction reduce operator fatigue, while intuitive controls—including stepped levers—allow users to feel changes in speed and movement. This tactile feedback helps operators make more precise adjustments, improving control and safety during crane operation.

Power Options That Keep Equipment Moving

ZLTX transmitters come standard with four “AA” alkaline batteries, providing up to 100 hours of continuous use. For quick turnaround operations, users can opt for rechargeable NiMH batteries. This flexibility ensures radios are always ready to go, minimizing downtime and simplifying maintenance.

Optional Docking-Style Charging Base

To streamline battery management, ZLTX offers an optional docking-style charger. Compatible with any four “AA” 1.2V NiMH batteries, this base makes it easy to recharge and store transmitters between shifts—keeping equipment powered and ready when you need it.

Fast Setup and Reliable Communication

Wireless pairing capabilities allow operators to quickly transfer settings between transmitters or between a transmitter and receiver—reducing setup time and limiting the need for spare parts. Frequency agility enables users to switch channels to avoid interference, ensuring uninterrupted communication in busy industrial environments.

Enhanced Safety with Zero G

ZLTX transmitters are built on a proven technology platform and include advanced safety features.
For example, the Zero G sensor helps prevent unintended movement by disabling motion commands if the transmitter is dropped or tilted—adding an extra layer of protection for operators and equipment.

Built to Last in Harsh Environments

ZLTX transmitters are sealed to NEMA 4 (IP66) standards, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Available in 2-, 3-, and 5-speed options, with 3 or 4 levers, pushbuttons, and switches, these transmitters are built for flexibility. Levers and joysticks are rated for over five million operating cycles, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding conditions.

Complete the System with ZRX Receivers

Pair ZLTX transmitters with ZRX receivers for a complete radio control system. ZRX receivers offer two-way communication, system status feedback, and are housed in IP66-rated enclosures. Their UL94-V0 rated components provide durability and safety in even the most challenging environments.

Ideal for Crane & Hoist Applications

Whether you're upgrading an existing system or outfitting a new installation, ZLTX radio remote controls deliver the performance, flexibility, and durability needed to keep operations running smoothly.
