MARINE, SHIPBUILDING & PORT OPERATIONS

Robust lifting, crane, and motion systems engineered for the demanding conditions of shipbuilding, maritime maintenance, and port logistics.

What we can do for you

Whether constructing vessels, installing heavy components, performing dry-dock maintenance, or safely handling cargo in port environments — our durable lifting solutions deliver reliable performance even under harsh offshore and marine conditions. We help increase uptime, efficiency, and safety — onshore and offshore.

Typical applications

Marine and port operations require highly resilient systems capable of safely moving heavy components such as engines, propellers, structural sections, or deck equipment. Our hoists and cranes support shipbuilding lines, repair docks, and maintenance halls, while specialized winches and lifting systems ensure safe load handling even during severe weather and in corrosive environments.

Solutions for Marine, Shipbuilding & Port Operations

FERRY PORT KURYK

The ferry port in Kuryk on the shores of the Caspian Sea is becoming a hub for the direct transport of goods to Europe. Columbus McKinnon is equipping two huge loading bridges at this construction site with 24 Pfaff-silberblau SHE 150.1 special lifting gear units and 48 special gear motors, thereby creating the technical basis for entire freight trains to be loaded onto and unloaded from the ferries quickly.

BOAT STORAGE WITH AUTOMATED CRANE SYSTEMS

Automated boat storage in dry dock using a bridge crane. The facility offers space for 125 boats up to 15 meters in length. The automatic crane eliminates the need for forklifts to store and retrieve boats. The automatic bridge crane operates quietly and cleanly, much to the delight of local residents.

PORT FACILITY

In ports around the world, the SH wire rope hoist and ST chain hoist prove their reliability every day: STAHL CraneSystems supplies specialized maintenance hoists for container cranes as well as lifting solutions for a wide range of terminal equipment. This dependable technology ensures smooth operations directly at the quayside.

CONTAINER TERMINAL

The customer sought to improve the safety of container cranes when handling unevenly loaded containers and during stormy conditions. The SLA spreaders from Pfaff-silberblau were engineered specifically for these port operations. With high load capacity, precise positioning, and extremely robust construction, they significantly enhance both efficiency and safety in port logistics.

SHIP RAMP SYSTEM

Eight BETA wire rope winches installed on a ship ramp system simplify inspection and maintenance processes. The ramp is angled so vessels can be pulled out of the water on rail-guided trolleys and returned after servicing. The system allows operators to select winches based on the vessel’s model and length. The control system synchronizes all preselected winches, ensuring even load distribution during movement.

ICEBREAKER APPLICATION

Duff-Norton rotary unions ensure reliable media transfer inside the propulsion pods of modern icebreakers. Even under extreme conditions — arctic temperatures, saltwater exposure, and high mechanical loads — these rotary unions safely supply cooling water and hydraulic oil. Featuring corrosion-resistant materials and a robust sealing system, they deliver maximum operational safety and minimize maintenance requirements, ensuring long-lasting, powerful performance at sea.
